The Art of Living

What better way to celebrate the vibrant creative heritage of this storied region than by giving our residents the opportunity to commission a work of art for their home. That's the aim of the Cadence Point Art Series.

Every home buyer at Cadence Point will receive an allowance for a commissioned art work of their choice by one of seven local artists and artisans. A showcase painting for your living room. An inviting wrought-iron garden gate. A magnificent ceramic sculpture. A dining room table constructed from native cherry or reclaimed pine.

These are pieces that will be designed and created with your collaboration, making each work a personal  touchstone, reflecting your individual taste and style — and destined to become a family heirloom.

William Bostic Byers, Jr.
Painting

Bill Byers has deep roots in Brevard. An alumnus of Brevard College, Bill has been teaching drawing, painting and photography at the College for twenty-two years.  He earned a B. A. in Art from Barton College in 1974 and a MFA in Painting from East Carolina University in 1980.

In 2007, Bill was awarded a sabbatical leave for the fall semester to focus on a series of paintings that depict the forested landscape of the Brevard area.  This series of paintings continue a long-held interest in the natural world as subject matter for his work in both painting and photography. Bill often incorporates photography directly within the painting process by using photographic imagery as a visual reference for the larger scale paintings.  “I think of the photographs that I utilize as a basis for paintings as a form of drawing which provides a sense of actuality for the ‘painterly’ realism that I practice.” You can reach Bill at (828) 883-8839.

Drew Deane
Painting

Drew Deane received her MFA from the University of Florida in 1985 and has gone on to exhibit her evocative paintings throughout the southeast.

Specializing in oil on board, Drew's paintings demonstrate an Edward Hopper-like mastery of light and shadow while communicating a powerful sense of place by focusing on the artifacts of our recent past: the hand-lettered signs and neon extravaganzas that still stand sentinel across our urban landscape.

Werner Haker
Painting

Werner Haker was born in Hamburg, Germany and spent his childhood in New York City.

He studied art and architecture in Zurich, Switzerland where he taught and practiced architecture as well as being a visiting critic in various schools of architecture in American universities.

Werner's abstract paintings invite the viewer to actively participate. In his words, "abstraction personalizes the universal and universalizes the personal. I paint and assimilate fragments because, I believe, it’s how we perceive and make order out of the world in which we live."

Each painting is purposely a montage of ambiguous narrative elements, punctuated with expressive marks within the context of a color field. While seemingly random and at times chaotic, Werner's dynamic montages are actually deliberate, precise and deeply fulfilling.
